We are looking for a bright mind who complements our efforts in optimizing software building processes and (continuous) software delivery. An exciting opportunity in which you will support our software engineers with maintaining and optimizing their development and deployment tool chain, maintain and improve software build and deployment processes and systems, and work with the technical operations team on process quality and efficiency. You will mainly support the developers of the WEBFLEET® SaaS stack -consisting of 30+ deployables. The code base consists mainly of Java, JavaScript, C++ and some Groovy, Flash/Flex, Swift, .NET.

    Where do you want to be?

    Together with skilled, experienced and motivated team members, you will:

    • Maintain, review, change, and optimize build processes for all WEBFLEET® components in co-operation with the software component owners; anything from evaluating tools for peer code review, writing Jenkins or JIRA plugins, migrating to another build system or source code versioning system, to redesigning the entire build, test, and delivery process chain
    • Keep track of ongoing developments in the markets for developer, build, and deployment tooling and implement new approaches and tools as part of a continual improvement effort; which IDE is best for the purpose, code review tools, source code management, continuous integration server, statics analysis
    • Act as the owner and keeper of the build and deployment processes and automated testing; help us to change our approach in order to get as close to continuous delivery as we can
    • Frequently and clearly communicate with several stakeholders to make sure needs are met and everyone stays one the same page. You will also need to educate new joiners and off-site teams, with regards to the current processes and tooling and how to use them, and evangelize stakeholder and engineers with regards to all process changes
    • In addition to any scripting (Bash, Groovy, SQL, PHP, Python) work, you contribute code (Java, Spring, Node.js, ReactJS) and functionality to in-house tooling for various purposes (depending on your work load and ability).

     

    What do we expect from you?

    There is no set route to become a Development Support Engineer at TomTom Telematics. But to be successful in this role, this is the kind of profile we have in mind:

    • You should be an analytic, goal-oriented, quality-focused, yet still agile type of person
    • Good communicator who likes to work with software engineers, you will interact a lot with developers, component owner, and technical operations and propose and discuss changes and improvements with them
    • Ideally you have experience in a similar role. Even better if you are experienced in an environment that practices continuous delivery or was on the way to it
    • Clear passion for process optimization and automation: Putting systems in place that do the same repetitive tasks quicker and with less effort should be deeply satisfying for you
    • Experience with as many as possible of the following: Jenkins, Puppet, SonarCube, build tools (Gradle, Node.js / NPM, ANT/Ivy, Maven), RPM, Sonatype Nexus, GIT,  OpenStack, JIRA (customizations), Confluence, Bitbucket Server, Gerrit, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA. If you have worked with other tools in the same league just name them in your application and surprise us with your experiences
    • Practical software development skills and worked on code and software projects
    • You are aware and have a sense for KISS, DRY, Clean Code and Agile Manifesto
    • Fluent in German and English
